Currently just a fan with lots of favorite sources of material. One of my favorite sources for rare and obscure group sounds is Echoes Of The Past - A doo-wop radio oldies show. Currently taking a DooWop Ensemble class at the new school with Bobby Jay, formerly with the Laddins PHOTO GALLERY - THE LADDINS .

The group harmony and doowop music of the 50's and 60's reminds me of my years in Brooklyn and the people of the neighborhoods. In those days, New York High Schools had the GO or General Organization for students. We could go to Dodger games or any other pro game like Knick doubleheaders at the Old Garden or other events around town for 40 cents. Can you believe it? My favorite use of the GO Card benefit was trips to Ebbets Field, the hallowed ground, to see my beloved Dodgers play. Brooklyn Dodgers: The Boys of Summer .

Today, putting on an Echoes Of The Past tape or listening to the Don K. Reed Doo Wop Shop on Sunday nights on WCBS-FM takes me right back to that golden time. That time when it was important to have two copies of The Paragons Meet The Jesters, one at home and one for the road. The girls were named Rose, Camille, Joyce, and Patty, and often they had to come looking for us at Pop Klee's Pool Room and Fishing Tackle Shop on 94th and L. We were usually there, unless we were off on a trek to Slim Rose's Times Square Records for some new additions or out to Jamaica Race Track for a couple of pooled interest bets on horses ridden by people with names like Arcaro, Sellers and Ycaza.

In the summer time, we could still get home from Brighton Beach Bay 4 in time for stickball and more lost spaldeens, by hitting them three sewers, of course. Sometimes, and more often than not, it was more fun to just go down to Manny's candy store, see who was around. Hanging out harmonizing a few DooWops was usually the routine.

Now I am a memeber of UGHA THE VOCAL GROUP HARMONY/DOO WOP WEB SITE . If you like DooWop as much as this kid does, you may want to check out How To Join P.O.O.L.

Those were the days when one of life's main responsibilities was to keep the music playing and just put another DooWop 45 record on the player. The mood could change every two minutes, depending on the song. Now it is about taking risk, accepting the consequences, and taking responsibility for the choices that are made in response to the things that come up in this glorious thing called life.
